2016 BMW X1 Release Date and Price
The famous Bavarian car maker held an online presentation of the 2016 BMW X1 on June 2, 2015. As for the official revealing, it is scheduled for September 2015 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. This exciting crossover is due to go on sale shortly after, most likely in October 2015.
The 2016 BMW X1 will be based on the BMW UKL platform. The same underpinnings are meant to be used for the new BMW Series 1. Since the platform has been designed for front-wheel drive vehicles, the new X1 will come with FWD as standard. However, there will be an all-wheel drive xDrive version offered as well. In addition to these two variants, BMW has announced the X1 Li model with a longer wheelbase. The model is primarily meant to be sold on the Chinese market.
2016 BMW X1 Changes
The first generation of this successful crossover made its debut in 2009. BMW has sold more than 730.000 units to this day. What remains to be seen is whether the upcoming generation has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. The new generation comes with slightly altered dimensions. It is 36 mm shorter, 21 mm wider and and 53 mm taller than the outgoing model which makes the new X1 4,439 mm l/1,821 mm w/1,598 mm h. The direct consequence of these figures is a more spacious cabin. As for the wheelbase, it is 2,670 mm long.
The cabin is made of high-quality, modern materials. The interior design is highlighted by a three spoke steering wheel and a large number of aluminum and gloss black details. Also, there is a new 6.5-inch infotainment system and a head-up display. The new-generation X1 has also grown in size when it comes to cargo space. The new cargo capacity is 505 liters which is 85 liters more in comparison to the previous generation. The capacity can reach up to 1,550 liters when the second row of seats is folded down. Moreover, the curb weight has been reduced by 50 kg.
BMW has been known for offering a wide range of engines for its models. It’s no different this time since the new X1 will be offered with an impressive engine lineup. The buyers will be able to choose from the 2016 BMW X1 sDrive 20i with 192 hp and 280 Nm, the 2016 BMW X1 xDrive 20i with the same powerplant, the 2016 BMW X1 xDrive 25i that gives 231 hp and 350 Nm, the 2016 BMW X1 sDrive 18d that generates 150 hp and 330 Nm, the 2016 BMW X1 xDrive 20d with 190 hp and 400 Nm as well as the 2016 BMW X1 xDrive 25d that churns out 231 hp and 450 Nm. The majority of models will be equipped with the standard 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, while some of them will be offered with the new optional s-speed manual transmission.
Two entry-lever sDrive models should become available some time later. These are the X1 sDrive 16d and the X1 sDrive 18i. Their power will come from three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo engines. The sDrive 16d will generate 116 hp, while the sDrive 18i will have 136 hp at its disposal. Following these two models, a hybrid version as well as the 2016 BMW X1 M are due to arrive on the market.
