2016 Ford Expedition Changes
After the 2015 model received an update, the 2016 Ford Expedition is expected to bring several subtle changes. Many believe that this full-size SUV deserves a more substantial overhaul than the it received in 2014. Despite these recent changes, the Expedition is still regarded as an outdated model in most respects.
As for the luxury version of the Expedition, the Lincoln Navigator’s redesign has been announced for the 2017 model year. More precisely, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator is expected to arrive with reduced curb weight and boosted fuel economy. Some sources suggest that the 2016 Expedition might undergo a similar process.
The Expedition’s robust body-on-frame architecture and its ability to seat up to 8 passengers comfortably has been much appreciated by the traditional SUV buyers. However, the latest tendencies in this segment dictate a radically different approach when it comes to the full-size SUVs. Apart from the strictly utilitarian function, many buyers now expect their large ute to offer a sleek and modern design combined with superb performance. Although the 2015 facelift gave this model some notable improvements, the 2016 Ford Expedition will need to carry on in the same direction in order to retain its competitiveness. While it currently excels compared to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban models, its thorough redesign is imminent in the near future.
2016 Ford Expedition Specs
Just like its predecessors, the 2016 Expedition will be offered in both short (119-inches) and long (131-inches) wheelbase versions. On top of the familiar four trim levels, the 2015 model came with the new range-topping Platinum trim. The 2016 Ford Expedition will be virtually identical to its predecessor when it comes to the trim levels.
The richly appointed 2016 Expedition will be equipped with Ford’s latest technology. The list of amenities includes such systems as Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Information System and continuously controlled damping with three modes of comfort. The latter system will be applied for the first time ever in Ford’s models. Now, the most notable technological improvement inside the 2016 model will come with the SYNC 3, the latest version of Ford’s touch-screen infotainment system.
One of the much-praised changes that arrived with the 2015 Expedition was its new engine option. Namely, the old 5.4-liter V8 was replaced by Ford’s new EcoBoost unit that returns a significantly improved fuel economy. As was the case with the outgoing model, the 2016 Ford Expedition will be powered by the 3.6-liter V6 EcoBoost engine that generates 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. This unit will be paired with a six-speed Select-Shift automatic transmission. Whereas the rear-wheel drive will be offered as standard, the all-wheel drive version will be available with each trim level.
2016 Expedition Price
The 2016 model’s pricing will stay in the same range as the outgoing version. The current entry-level Expedition XLT starts at $43,390, while the range-topping 2016 Expedition Platinum EL costs $60,600. As for the 2016 Ford Expedition, it might come with slightly higher pricing figures due to increased production costs.
