2016 Kia Sportage Release and Facelift
The much-anticipated 2016 Kia Sportage will come as the first model of the next generation. The all-new Sportage is due to make its debut later in 2015, while it’s expected to come to market in early 2016. The fourth-generation Kia Sportage SUV is currently being developed together with the 2016 Hyundai Tucson SUV (also known as the Hyundai ix35). The South Korean carmaker has been hugely successful with the current Sportage model. Having said that, the company’s decision to launch the 2016 Sportage with only subtle alterations doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
2016 Kia Sportage Changes
The upcoming 2016 model will basically retain the familiar dimensions as well as the recognizable exterior styling of the 2015 Kia Sportage. Some minor upgrades are visible mostly on its front fascia. The new model has received the ’’tiger nose’’ grille and new wrap-around headlights. The new grille comes slightly lower than the one found on the current model. As for the rear end, it now features a distinctive design of the LED light clusters. Although the spied prototypes don’t reveal too much due to heavy camouflage, the overall impression is that Kia decided to stick to the tried and tested formula. The interior design of the current model boasts a lot of high-quality materials, while standard equipment offers plenty of safety features and driver assist systems that enhance the driving experience significantly. So, the 2016 Kia Sportage is expected to offer a slightly more advanced version of something that has already proven itself during the last several years. Certain technological improvements are definitely expected but it remains to be seen to what extent. So far, the only officially confirmed improvement is the one related to the transmission. In addition to the current six-speed manual transmission, the new model will be offered with a new seven-speed automatic double-clutch gearbox.
2016 Kia Sportage Specs
The 2016 Kia Sportage will be available with the same choice of powerplants as the current model. Namely, the two gasoline and two diesel-powered engines. The less powerful gasoline unit is the 1.2-liter Turbo T-Ddi that develops 132 hp, while the bigger 2.0-liter Turbo T-Gdi engine makes 245 hp. The latter option is actually the range-topping engine in the lineup. As for the diesel versions, there is a 2.0-liter R-Engine making 190 hp and 1.6-liter CRDi unit that generates 136 hp. Some sources suggest that this engine is due to undergo certain enhancements. As mentioned before, there will be a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic transmission offered with the upcoming model.
