2016 Lexus GX Changes
The 2016 Lexus GX will undergo only minor cosmetic changes. The current model is the only three-row SUV in the Japanese automaker’s family. It is expected to soldier on for a few more years but it remains to be seen what the future holds for it. The GX is a traditional body-on frame SUV and belongs to the luxury segment. It hasn’t received any substantial changes since its debut in 2010 and its current styling is the result of the 2014 facelift.
The outgoing model shares the same platform with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV. We expect the 2016 model to get a revised front fascia that will be dominated by the new Lexus spindle grille. Also, the light clusters are expected to be reshaped for the 2016 model year. Certain tweaks and improvements will be made when it comes to GX’s interior design as well.
2016 Lexus GX Specs
Car buyers that expect a comfortable and luxurious ride backed by great performance find the Lexus GX one of the most appealing vehicles currently on the market. It is often the number one choice for large families since it provides an exceptionally comfortable ride. Of course, its safety standards and reliability make the 2016 Lexus GX very competitive in this segment. Also, the GX offers great off-road performance as well as class-leading cargo capacity.
Luxury SUVs usually offer a long list of standard equipment, premium-quality interior as well as the most advanced technology. The 2016 Lexus GX 460 SUV includes all of the aforementioned features. Its cabin is made of the highest-quality materials combined with the latest safety and infotainment systems. Among a large number of its amenities are the sunroof, automatic climate control, infotainment system equipped with an 8-inch display, telescoping steering wheel, etc.
The 2016 Lexus GX will be powered by the same engine used in the current model. It is a 4.6-liter V8 engine that makes 301 horsepower. The power is transmitted to the wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission and the model will be available with both FWD and AWD. This engine is one of the most powerful and most dependable on the market. It provides excellent off-road abilities with the help of the Torsen Centre Differential and Standard Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. However, its biggest downside is a poor fuel efficiency and high CO2 emissions. That is one of the main reasons of its uncertain future beyond 2016.
2017 Lexus GX Redesign or Discontinuation
Rumor has it that the 2017 Lexus GX will come as a wholly redesigned model that should mark the brand new generation. That redesign is supposed to include a new platform, altered dimensions and a substantial weight reduction. The brand new design should result in much better aerodynamics as well as improved EPA ratings. Also, the 2017 GX should be receive a whole new engine lineup that provides much higher fuel efficiency.
According to the latest announcements, the future of the Lexus GX is highly uncertain. Namely, the company is even considering to discontinue the GX and LX SUVs after 2016. It is mostly due to ever more strict fuel economy and CO2 emissions regulations. A new seven-seater crossover Lexus TX has been mentioned as one of the possible alternatives. The final decisions is yet to be made. So, it remains to be seen whether the 2017 Lexus GX will come completely redesigned or this SUV is about to be replaced by a whole new 2017 Lexus TX crossover SUV.
