2016 Lexus GX Changes

The 2016 Lexus GX will undergo only minor cosmetic changes.  The current model is the only three-row SUV in the Japanese automaker’s family. It is expected to soldier on for a few more years but it remains to be seen what the future holds for it. The GX is a traditional body-on frame SUV and belongs to the luxury segment. It hasn’t received any substantial changes since its debut in 2010 and its current styling is the result of the 2014 facelift.

The outgoing model shares the same platform with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV. We expect the 2016 model to get a revised front fascia that will be dominated by the new Lexus spindle grille. Also, the light clusters are expected to be reshaped for the 2016 model year. Certain tweaks and improvements will be made when it comes to GX’s interior design as well.

That redesign is supposed to include a new platform, altered dimensions and a substantial weight reduction. The brand new design should result in much better aerodynamics as well as improved EPA ratings. Also, the 2017 GX should be receive a whole new engine lineup that provides much higher fuel efficiency.

According to the latest announcements, the future of the Lexus GX is highly uncertain. Namely, the company is even considering to discontinue the GX and LX SUVs after 2016. It is mostly due to ever more strict fuel economy and CO2 emissions regulations. A new seven-seater crossover Lexus TX has been mentioned as one of the possible alternatives. The final decisions is yet to be made. So, it remains to be seen whether the 2017 Lexus GX will come completely redesigned or this SUV is about to be replaced by a whole new 2017 Lexus TX crossover SUV.
