2016 Mazda CX-3 Release and Price
Mazda’s latest crossover SUV, the CX-3, made its official debut at the 2014 LA Auto Show in November. The model was then presented to the European public at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The latest newcomer to the Japanese automaker’s SUV family is actually the smallest of them all. The 2016 Mazda CX-3 will hit the American dealerships in the summer of 2015, while the vehicle will be imported exclusively from Hiroshima, Japan.
2016 Mazda CX-3 Design
The upcoming 2016 Mazda CX-3 is based on the same underpinnings as the fourth-generation Mazda 2. The CX-3 and Mazda 2 share the same wheelbase but the CX-3 SUV is 215 mm longer and 55 mm taller in comparison to the Mazda 2 model. As for the exterior appearance, the CX-3 looks like a downsized version of the CX-5 SUV which is 300 mm longer. The interior, however, resembles the one found in the Mazda 2.
The 2016 Mazda CX-3, as is the case with all of the company’s models since 2011, features the recognizable KODO- Soul of Motion design. The vehicle is also based on the full-range of SKYACTIV technology. Some of the striking features of this great SUV include a disctinctive grille, lots of round shapes combined with a blacked out C-pillar that creates an illusion of a floating roof. The headlights share the same design with the ones found on the redesigned CX-5 SUV.
The cabin boasts a modern and exceptionally functional design. Apart from the high-quality materials, the interior design is underlined by such details as the circular air vents and gloss black elements. Also, there is a head-up-display (HUD) and Mazda’s Connect infotainment system. As for the safety systems, the CX-3 is replete with the latest technology. The 2016 Mazda CX-3 SUV will use Mazda’s SKYACTIV chassis that absorbs the external effects. It prevents the body from deforming in certain situations. There will also be the SRS airbag system, while the seats feature a special safety design that protects passenger’s heads.
2016 Mazda CX-3 Engines
The latest Mazda’s crossover will be sold on all global markets. That is one of the main reasons for its wide range of powerplants. For instance, the US version of the 2016 Mazda CX-3 will be offered with a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine with direct injection, available in two variants that produce 120 hp and 165 hp respectively. Besides that same engine, the CX-3 will offered with a diesel-powered unit on the European market. Namely, the 5-liter SKYACTIV-D engine that generates 105 horsepower. In addition to these two engines, Mazda will offer a four-cylinder 1.3-liter SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine.
All of the powerplants will be available with either the SKYACTIV-MT manual or the SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission. While the front-wheel drive comes standard, all-wheel drive versions should be optional. Also, all of the engines boast great fuel efficiency as well as low CO2 emissions.
According to some unofficial announcements, the 2016 Mazda CX-3 for the US market should start at $20,000. With an affordable pricing and excellent performance, this crossover will have no trouble rivaling other models in the segment. Those include the Opel Mokka, Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke, Jeep Renegade, Renault Captur, Suzuki Vitara and others.
