2016 Mazda CX-7 Comeback
Recent reports suggest that Mazda is determined to revive the CX-7 SUV. According to these sources, the company is currently developing the 2016 Mazda CX-7 which is due to make its debut in the first half of 2016. Prior to its launch, the Japanese automaker is expected to reveal the new 2016 Mazda CX-9.
Mazda’s decision to reintroduce the old CX-7 badge is not surprising, bearing in mind the rapidly expanding SUV segment. The CX-7 arrived for the 2006 model year and then soldiered on until 2012 when it was discontinued. In the meantime, Mazda has premiered the compact CX-3 crossover. In order to fill the gap in its SUV range, the company is preparing to relaunch the 2016 Mazda CX-7.
2016 Mazda CX-7 Design
Besides the Mazda CX-3, the Japanese brand offers the best-selling mid-size CX-5 as well as the full-size CX-9 SUV. As for the 2016 Mazda CX-7, its comeback might turn out to be easier than expected since the model already has its fan base on various markets.
The upcoming 2016 Mazda CX-7 will be based on the smaller CX-5. In other words it will borrow most of its styling cues and technology from the 2016 CX-5 SUV. Of course, the most notable difference between the two models will be the CX-7’s 5+2 seating configuration. Although the third row of seats is suitable only for smaller children, the model still offers one of the most comfortable rides in the segment. The 2016 Mazda CX-7 will be built at the Hiroshima facility in Japan.
2016 Mazda CX-7 Specs
Apart from the exterior design and technological features, the 2016 CX-7 will borrow its engine range from the 2016 Mazda CX-5. Namely, it will be powered by four-cylinder gasoline and diesel units based on the SKYACTIV technology. These powerplants have been renowned for their excellent performance and fuel economy, which is expected from them inside the new CX-7 as well.
Prior to its cancellation, the CX-7 SUV was offered with three different engines, three transmissions and both FWD and AWD. Unfortunately, we’re still expecting official details when it comes to the mechanical segment of the 2016 Mazda CX-7 SUV. Anyway, we have no reason to doubt that the upcoming model will be available with numerous options including all-wheel drive.
2016 Mazda CX-7 Price
Since the Mazda CX-7 2016 is expected to slot between the 2016 CX-5 and 2016 CX-9, we expect it to cost less than $50,000.
