2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC Release Date
A sports SUV coupe model made by Mercedes-Benz has long been speculated about. The German company first unwrapped the Concept Coupe SUV at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. We now have an official announcement from Mercedes that a production-ready model is set to arrive in the second half of 2015 as the 2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC.
As its direct competitor, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC is due to take on the BMW X6. However, these two models are about to face a brand new opponent. Namely, Audi has announced its own SUV coupe under the Q6 nameplate. It is anticipated to hit the dealerships sometime in 2016.
2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC Design
The upcoming MLC SUV will be built at the Mercedes-Benz’s plant in Alabama, USA. It’s interesting to note that the company invested around two billion US dollars into this facility. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC will actually be based on the new-generation ML model. Although very similar to the ML, the MLC will come as a less practical vehicle. In fact, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC will bear a strong resemblance to the BMW X6 model. Its roof line will basically be taken from the BMW X6, whereas the front fascia should retain the Mercedes’ signature styling.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC will borrow its engine range from the ML model. It includes a four-cylinder diesel unit that makes 240 hp as well as tried and tested gasoline and diesel V6 engines. Rumor has it that the 2016 MLC should be offered with an AMG badge as well. The buyers will be able to choose between the MLC63 AMG model with a V8 twin-turbo engine (500 hp) and the MLC65 AMG fitted with a V12 powerplant. Besides these versions, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC might also be be available with a hybrid system.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC will definitely feature the most advanced mechanical and technological solutions available. We expect the upcoming MLC to be equipped with additional sensors and cameras that aren’t offered with other models in the range. As far as the interior design is concerned, it will feature a sporty appearance and outstanding comfort. Thanks to its adjustable suspension, the new MLC will boast one of the most comfortable driving experiences.
Mercedes-Benz decided to launch the MLC SUV encouraged mostly by the BMW’s hugely successful X6. This model’s sales figures vary between 40,000 and 60,000 yearly, which might serve as a target for the 2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC. The company is also considering a potential rival to the BMW X4. Whether this model will enter production in the near future, remains to be seen.
