2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Release Date
The improved version of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SUV is eagerly awaited in the US. Although the Mitsubishi’s hybrid has been scheduled to arrive in 2014, its premiere is finally announced to take place during the fall of 2015. According to Mitsubishi North America, the upcoming 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be a vastly improved model compared to the standard version of the Outlander SUV.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Design
The new model is expected to come with a more modern exterior styling as well as a number of technological enhancements. This refreshed exterior design is inspired largely by the GC-PHEV and XR-PHEV concepts. Not only will the new sheet metal come in a more modern shape, the redesigned interior will follow this trend as well. In the meantime, Mitsubishi has unveiled another concept vehicle, namely the Outlander PHEV Concept-S model. It is believed that the aforementioned concept showcases the characteristics of the upcoming 2016 Outlander PHEV model. The concept announces the vehicle’s new profile and significantly improved exterior and interior styling cues.
The current model is powered by a gas-electric system that consists of a four-cylinder conventional 2.0-liter engine, two electric motors and lithium-ion batteries. The battery capacity is 12 kWh, while the system’s overall output reaches 200 hp and 337 Nm of torque. Thanks to this system, the Outlander PHEV is able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds. The vehicle’s fuel economy is rated at 1.6-liter/100 km, with the top speed of 170 km/h. With its tank full, the Outlander PHEV’s range is estimated at 800 km, while the electric only range is around 55 km.
Interestingly, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s American debut has been delayed several times. This is mostly due to the company’s efforts in correcting certain flaws and improving the vehicle’s hybrid system. Anyway, the Japanese automaker is confident that the wait will prove worthwile. Virtually every segment of the new Outlander Phev will come enhanced compared to the previous model. Thanks to its improved hybrid system and more appealing exterior, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will represent one of the most sensible choices in its class. We expect its US competition to face a formidable rival once it hits the dealerships.
