2016 Nissan Qashqai North American Debut
According to recent reports, Nissan is due to introduce its immensely popular Qashqai crossover to the North American market. Namely, this British-built compact crossover is expected to slot below the larger Rogue in the U.S. lineup. As a smaller and more fuel-efficient model, the 2016 Nissan Qashqai will replace the Rogue Select that is currently sold as a junior Rogue. Although it shares many of its components with the Rogue, the European Qashqai is actually 10 inches shorter than its American cousin. Moreover, several spy shots of a lightly camouflaged prototype, recently taken in Spain, confirm that this model is due to undergo some visual changes before it hits the U.S. dealerships.
According to the mentioned spy photos, the American version of the Qashqai crossover won’t bring any revolutionary changes. Since the Rogue and Qashqai already share a similar look, the 2016 Nissan Qashqai will feature only minor alterations aimed to bring it more in line with the U.S. DOT regulations. In that regard, expect it to adopt a reshaped front fascia with new headlights and a revised bumper. As for the rear end, it is most likely to carry over unchanged from the European-spec model. The upcoming Qashqai is also expected to retain the ride height of its European counterpart. When it comes to the interior design, these two models are currently almost identical. We believe that the cabin is least likely to undergo any major changes for the North American market.
The second generation of the Qashqai arrived for the 2014 model year, offering two diesel engines and a gasoline-powered unit. Now, this 1.6-liter gasoline four-cylinder available in Europe is rumored to make its way to the North American market. It currently produces 161 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, which is quite impressive compared to the larger Rogue’s 170 hp and and 175 lb-ft. The 2016 Nissan Qashqai is also expected to adopt a continuously variable transmission, although official statements on this matter have yet to be released.
2016 Nissan Qashqai Price
While the current Rogue is priced at $23,000, the Rogue Select starts just above $20,000. That said, we expect the 2016 Nissan Qashqai to start at around $21,000.
