2016 Nissan Xterra Discontinuation
Contrary to many announcements of a an updated version of the Nissan Xterra, the truth is that the Japanese company intends to discontinue this crossover SUV. Not only that, there won’t even be a successor to the well-known Xterra SUV. So, the 2016 Nissan Xterra should actually be available only as the 2015 model, at least while there are units available from stock. According to Nissan, further investments in the development of the Xterra are no longer profitable. The decision to end its production ensued after the sales declined dramatically in 2014. So, expect no updates or a direct successor to the current Xterra, while the 2016 Nissan Xterra will be sold as the 2015 model.
2016 Nissan Xterra Design and Specs
The Nissan Xterra is an SUV that rides on the F-Alpha platform, shared with the Frontier pickup truck. The model was first unwrapped in 1999 for the 2000 model year. As for the Nissan’s SUV lineup, the Xterra sits between the Rogue and Murano models.
The current version, just like the 2016 Nissan Xterra, belongs to the second generation that has been around since 2005. In upper trim levels, the Xterra came with several tweaks inside the cabin and certain cosmetic changes when it comes to exterior.
The 2016 Nissan Xterra will be offered in X, S and PRO-4X trim levels. All of them include 16-inch 6-spoke alloy wheels and come in a 4-door configuration. The X and S trims deliver 16 city/22 hwy mpg, whereas the PRO-4X model returns 16 city/20 hwy mpg. The 2016 Nissan Xterra PRO-4X will be the range-topping model with such features as the hill start assist, hill descent control, Bilstein off-road performance shock absorbers, etc.
