2016 Opel Antara Next Generation
General Motors is due to launch an all-new Opel Antara SUV by the end of 2015. The 2016 Opel Antara will actually share most of its features with the Buick Envision. This compact crossover has been around since 2006, sharing its platform and engine range with the Chevrolet Captiva. It has also been sold under various other nameplates, including the Vauxhall Antara in the UK, Saturn Vue in North America and Holden Captiva 5 in Australasia. Due to its rather outdated looks, the Antara’s sales have been declining during the last several years. Apart from the 2010 facelift, it hasn’t changed much since its launch and the company views the new Envision as a suitable replacement for the outgoing model.
2016 Opel Antara Redesign
The 2016 Opel Antara is expected to adopt GM’s latest design philosophy. As part of the process of aligning Opel and Buick brands, the second-generation Antara is expected to arrive as a virtually identical model to the 2016 Buick Envision. It will ride on the same GM’s new global platform that already underpins the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs. As for the new sheet metal, expect to see a stylish and dynamic-looking crossover that can take on some of the most popular models in this segment. Thanks to the Envision’s huge success on the Chinese market, the American automaker plans to bring it to the US for the 2016 model year. We see no reason why a European version in the form of the upcoming Antara wouldn’t become as successful as its Buick sibling.
2016 Opel Antara Engine Range
Unfortunately, more detailed specifications of the 2016 Opel Antara’s engine options are still to come. As for the Chinese version of the Envision, it’s offered with a 2.0-liter turbocharged LTG Ecotec unit that generates 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Its power is transmitted to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. However, it’s not known whether European-spec models will be powered by the same engine. Having in mind the fact that diesel powertrains are much more popular on the European market, it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise if the brand new Antara gets one of GM’s new oil burners.

Anyway, we’ll be watching closely for more detailed information on the 2016 Opel Antara while its debut in late 2015 is nearing.
