2016 Toyota Fortuner Release Date
After numerous spy images, Toyota has finally revealed the new generation of the Fortuner SUV. Following the new-generation Hilux pickup truck and the refreshed Land Cruiser V8 SUV, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is set to make its debut. The latest generation of this seven-seat will be based on the new Hilux pickup, featuring a more modern design and enhanced performance. The model is due to go on sale in October 2015, simultaneously in Australia and Thailand.
2016 Toyota Fortuner Changes
Compared to its predecessor, the new Fortuner will come with a more modern exterior styling. In addition, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be a larger vehicle with more interior space. According to official specifications, the upcoming model will be 4795 mm long, 1855 mm wide, with its wheelbase 2745 mm long and ground clearance of 225 mm. This seven-seat SUV offer a much improved interior design as well. The cabin will be made of more premium materials compared to the outgoing generation. The 2016 Fortuner will also receive bi-LED headlights, LED daytime running lights as well as LED rear light clusters.
As far as the new model’s safety and driver assist systems are concerned, expect to see Active Traction Control, VSC, Hill Assist Control, Downhill Assist Control, Start-Stop system, rear-view camera as well as some other advanced features. There will also be a new transmission, enhanced front suspension and a new diesel engine.
2016 Toyota Fortuner Specs
The most prominent mechanical innovation will come as the new four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. It is a 2.8-liter unit with direct injection that generates 177 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm. Thanks to the new automatic transmission, the torque numbers can reach up to 450 Nm.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will also be available with a 2.4-liter diesel and a 2.7-liter gasoline-powered engine. The 2.4-liter diesel makes 150 horsepower and 400 Nm, while the 2.7-liter gasoline unit churns out 166 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. All of the engines will be paired with a 6-speed transmission (AT/MT), with AWD configuration as the only option. As for the Indian market, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be offered with diesel powertrains exclusively.
