2017 Acura MDX Changes
Due to soaring demand for the Acura MDX, the company has decided to increase the production of this model. Namely, Honda invested a substantial amount into a brand new production line in East Liberty, Ohio. The 2017 Acura MDX will be built in the same plant that produces the Honda CR-V, Acura RDX and Honda Crosstour models. At the same time, the 2017 Acura MDX will continue to be made at the Alabama plant where it is currently produced alongside the Honda Ridgeline, Pilot and Odyssey models.
However, the 2017 Acura MDX won’t come as an all-new model but as one of the third-generation variants. As for the fourth generation, it is expected to arrive around 2020. So, the Acura MDX 2017 will not come with any revolutionary changes. Since the model was thoroughly redesigned for the 2014 MY, the 2017 variant is likely to bring mostly cosmetic improvements and minor upgrades. The most substantial upgrades are expected to come with the vehicle’s technological features which should be borrowed from the new Honda Pilot.
Also, we expect the 2017 Acura MDX to come with an upgraded architecture. By applying a larger quantity of modern, light materials, this SUV will come with reduced curb weight. So, the 2017 MDX’s new construction will contain a larger percentage of aluminum.
2017 Acura MDX Specs
The current MDX is motivated by a 3.5-liter V6 engine motor based on the Earth Dreams technology. The unit is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, available with FWD or AWD configurations. The engine produces 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. When it comes to fuel economy, the FWD is estimated at 20/28/23 mpg (city/highway/combined). Whereas the AWD model returns 18/27/21 mpg. These figures are quite satisfying, especially if you have in mind the fact that the 2017 Acura MDX is actually a seven-seater full-size SUV. The same engine is expected to be offered with the 2017 model but with a slightly improved fuel efficiency due to its reduced weight.
Another powerplant to accompany the aforementioned unit would be welcomed by many. The 2017 Acura MDX offering a new engine alongside improved fuel economy figures and its familiar luxury would certainly make the model even more competitive in the segment.
The changes of the exterior styling will be mostly cosmetic. The 2017 MDX will once again feature the new Jewel Eye headlights technology, while the grille as well as the rear end should receive certain revisions. The most notable changes will happen inside the cabin. The MDX will come with a number of updated interior features and systems.
Price of the 2017 Acura MDX
As for the pricing, the current model ranges from $42,000 to $57,000, depending on the choice of engine and trim levels. The 2017 Acura MDX is expected to stay in the similar price range. The new model could come slightly more expensive only in case it offers a brand new engine under its hood.
