2017 BMW X2 Release Date and Specs
BMW is determined to launch a brand new crossover by 2017. Namely, the 2017 BMW X2 is due to slot between the X1 and X3 crossovers. After much consideration and certain issues concerning the moniker registration, the 2017 BMW X2 has finally been given a go-ahead by the Bavarian automaker. The new crossover is most likely to make its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. That event is expected to host a pre-production version in the form of a concept model.
Alongside the upcoming X2, BMW will launch its biggest and most luxurious SUV model, namely the X7. Also, the new-generation 2016 BMW X1 is set to hit the market during 2015.
2017 BMW X2 Design
The 2017 BMW X2 will share the UKL platform with the smaller X1 crossover. Not only that, the two models will actually have a lot in common. Both the 2017 BMW X2 and the second-generation X1 will share the same engine range and similar interior design. As for the exterior styling, it has been greatly influenced by the larger X4 and X6 models. So, the X2 will feature a coupe-like appearance, with three- and five-door layouts available. The vehicle’s front end will boast an aggressive design, with a roofline steeply raked towards the rear end. The X2 will also feature thin and angular headlights.
2017 BMW X2 Engine options
The brand new crossover will borrow its engine range from the latest X1. It includes several three- and four-cylinder units, both gasoline- and diesel-powered. For instance, one of the available engines will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit that produces 184 hp and 270 Nm of torque in one version or 231 hp and 350 Nm in other. There will also be a four-cylinder 2.0-liter diesel engine that develops 150 hp and 330 Nm. BMW has been known for offering a wide variety of engines under the hood of its models. You might expect a much longer list of available powertrains before the 2017 BMW X2 hits the dealerships. The model will have front-wheel drive as standard, with optional all-wheel drive.
2017 BMW X2 Sport
In addition to the standard model, the German company will offer a sports version of the upcoming X2. It is the 2017 BMW X2 Sport which is due to arrive at the same time as the standard model. While the 2017 BMW X2 should be available with the five-door layout, the 2017 BMW X2 Sport is more likely to come with three doors exclusively.
This performance-oriented version of the X2 crossover is rumored to have more than 300 hp at its disposal. Those figures will be achieved in cooperation with the M Performance division. The company is also expected to offer the 2017 BMW X2 Plug-in hybrid version.
