2017 Chevy Blazer K5 Revival

Rumor has it that GM is currently considering a possible revival of the Blazer K5 nameplate. Encouraged by the recent rise in the US economy and increasing demand for larger vehicles, the American automotive giant is looking to expand its SUV lineup in the following years. Originally introduced as a short wheelbase truck back in 1969, the Blazer K5 was eventually replaced by the Chevrolet Tahoe in 1995. This two-door model actually came as the smallest SUV in the Chevrolet family. Now, the launch of the 2017 Chevy Blazer K5 is yet to be officially confirmed.

2017 Chevy Blazer K5 Specs

There are conflicting opinions when it comes to the reintroduced Blazer K5’s cab style. One school of thought believes that it should arrive as a full-size two-door SUV largely based on the Chevy Tahoe. However, the other viewpoint suggests that the 2017 Chevy Blazer K5 is more likely to borrow its underpinnings from the upcoming Colorado, featuring two- and four-door versions. One thing is certain, the next generation of the famous SUV name is expected to offer a proper all-wheel drive system. It would definitely be hard to imagine the Blazer K5 with 2WD, as is the case with so many of the latest crossover models.

As for the power department, we’re currently dealing with several rumors while awaiting the company’s official statements on this subject. Some reports mention V6 units paired with an eight-speed transmission. Namely, the 2017 Chevy Blazer K5 should be powered by several diesel units as well as some mighty gasoline V6 engines with a high-rate of low-end torque. The all-new model is expected to adopt a tried and tested AWD system matched to heavy-duty axles, according to some sources.

When it comes to the exterior design, the 2017 Chevy Blazer K5 is expected to mimic the recently redesigned Chevy’s SUV models, at least to some extent. It’s still too early to tell but we believe that the upcoming Blazer is more likely to come with a more conventional exterior styling, reminiscent of the traditionally shaped 4×4 SUVs. Inside, the vehicle should offer a comfortable and capacious cabin, with plenty of headroom and legroom as well as a large cargo capacity. It will also come equipped with the latest driver assist features seen on the rest of GM’s SUV lineup.

The 2017 Chevy Blazer K5 is most likely to make its debut in late 2016. Official pricing details are yet to be released.
