2017 Ford Escape Release Date
The official release date for the 2017 Ford Escape SUV is yet to be confirmed by Ford Motor Company. In the meantime, several photos of a masked Escape prototype have surfaced. The time and place of its debut have also been speculated about recently. Some sources suggest that the 2017 Escape is due to be revealed at the upcoming 2015 LA Auto Show, while others believe that its debut is not likely to take place before the 2016 NAIAS in Detroit.
One of the main reasons for the 2017 Escape’s earlier debut is its competition. Namely, most of its redesigned and updated competitors, such as the Mazda CX-5, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, have already been revealed or announced. On the other hand, the current Escape boasts excellent sales figures with a steady increase. Many believe that the current model could easily take on even its updated rivals. One thing is certain, any enhancements would help the 2017 Ford Escape stay fresh and competitive in this hotly contested segment. What is more, a subtle facelift doesn’t require substantial investments.
2017 Ford Escape Redesign
The aforementioned spy shots give us a hint at what this mid-cycle update will look like. The 2017 Ford Escape will retain its familiar FWD platform. The upside of this platform is its flexibility that allows various tweaks and modifications. As for the exterior design of this model, it has been greatly influenced by two Ford’s models. These are the current Ford Fusion and the updated Ford Edge. Now, the 2017 Escape is expected to receive a revised grille, updated HID headlights and LED daytime running lights as well as lower air intakes. According to the spy photos, the heavily camouflaged fog lights indicate significant changes in that area. The only notable change on the rear side are the redesigned tail lights, while the exhaust seems to carry over unchanged.
Unfortunately, we are still in the dark when it comes to interior changes. The 2017 Ford Escape will retain its S, SE and Titanium trim levels. This five-seater will be equipped with the latest Sync 3 infotainment system. As for the cabin quality, the Escape boasts plenty of premium materials and elegant styling cues.
2017 Ford Escape Specs and Price
The upcoming model will be powered by the same engine range as the outgoing model. However, some speculate that the range might be joined by a new powerplant. Also, the optional 1.6-liter turbocharged engine could be offered as standard due to its popularity. Another possible new option might come in the form of the 1.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost unit that powers the current Ford Fusion. This engine produces 181 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque.
The new Escape will once again be offered with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as well as the 2.0-liter EcoBoost making 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. While the current model is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, some sources suggest that the 2017 Ford Escape could receive a 9-speed or 10-speed automatic gearbox. These speculations are yet to be confirmed by the company.
The 2017 Ford Escape is very likely to stay in the same price range as the current model which ranges between $23,000 and $30,000.
