2017 Ford Expedition Redesign and Release
The crossover SUV segment has been rapidly expanding over the last several years. Among the ever growing number of newcomers, the majority of models come as compact crossovers. Although the full-size SUVs used to be quite popular, their sales numbers have been declining lately. This is mostly due to customers opting for vehicles that are sturdy but efficient at the same time. One of those struggling full-size SUVs is the Ford Expedition. Despite being one of the most capable models in the segment, its poor fuel economy makes it less competitive in this relentless segment. In order to tacle this problem, Ford announced a new, fourth generation of the Expedition SUV. The 2017 Ford Expedition is scheduled to make its debut during 2016. The model will undergo a complete redesign with a large number of updates.
The Ford Expedition has been around for almost two decades. It came as a successor to the legendary Ford Bronco SUV and quickly established itself as one of the top full-size SUVs in the US. Now, the all-new 2017 Ford Expedition is expected to follow in the footsteps of the new F-150 pickup truck. Namely, it’s going to undergo a weight reduction process through adopting a large number of aluminum and high-strength steel components. Its lower curb weight is expected to boost its fuel economy numbers. The same goes for the upcoming Lincoln Navigator, the luxury version of the Expedition.
2017 Ford Expedition New Engine
The new generation of the famous SUV will be fitted with a new engine and new transmission. According to the American company, the 2017 Expedition will no longer be powered by the 5.4-liter V8 engine. The unit to replace it will be a 3.5-liter V6 Ti-VCT twin-turbo engine that gives 365 hp and 420 pound-feet of torque. It is expected to provide outstanding performance thanks to its turbocharger and direct injection. Not only that, the fuel economy will be greatly enhanced. Ford has also announced a possible introduction of one of the EcoBoost engines under the Expedition’s hood. These units are known for providing excellent performance combined with high fuel efficiency. Also, the upcoming 2017 Ford Expedition will receive a new SelectShift ten-speed intelligent transmission.
The all-new 2017 Expedition Hybrid
Hybrid versions of the popular SUVs have become common these days. So, the 2017 Ford Expedition Hybrid has been speculated about for quite some time. As an 8-seater family-hauler, a hybridized Expedition has a great potential for the future. It might even bring back some of the former glory to this full-size SUV model. By offering a spacious and comfortable cabin and great fuel economy at the same time, the 2017 Ford Expedition Hybrid might become extremely appealing to all family-oriented buyers. According to unofficial sources, the conventional part of this hybrid system might be the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine.
