2017 Kia Sportage Release Date
The next-generation Kia Sportage was expected to be unveiled right after the 2016 Hyundai Tucson SUV made its debut. However, the Kia Sportage in its fourth iteration will arrive no earlier than 2016. The 2017 Kia Sportage is anticipated to make its official debut in early 2016, and later go on sale by the middle of the year.
Although the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage were developed simultaneously, the two models weren’t premiered at the same time. As for the current Kia Sportage, it has been around since 2011, while the 2017 Sportage is designated to mark the all-new generation of this popular SUV. Interestingly, the redesigned model is not expected to bring any revolutionary changes despite the fact that it comes as an all-new generation.
2017 Kia Sportage Changes
As far as the 2016 model is concerned, it will bring a number changes and updates compared to its predecessor. Although limited, these changes should bring improvement at least to some extent. The changes are focused mainly on expanding the list of standard equipment on some of the trim levels. The 2016 Sportage LX will feature a longer list of amenities, including a new touchscreen display with a backup camera. As for the 2016 EX trim, it will receive new leather upholstery as standard.
Compared to the current generation, the 2017 Kia Sportage will bring only subtle changes. It will retain identical dimensions and most of the current sheet metal. Several cosmetic tweaks were influenced by the Kia KX3 concept model. Its new front fascia will boast a more striking Tiger nose grille and new raised headlights. At the rear side, the only noticeable change will come with slightly reshaped light clusters. The cabin will receive only minor tweaks, added to those 2016 updates.
2017 Kia Sportage Specs
The 2016 model will carry over unchanged when it comes to its engine range. There will be a 2.4-liter unit that makes 182 horsepower and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine generating 260 horsepower. Both of the engines will be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD as standard, while AWD comes optional.
Now, the 2017 Kia Sportage is expected to bring more substantial innovations. It should receive a downsized turbo engine with dual-clutch transmission and electronic driver aids. Some new engines are definitely needed to bring more diversity into the 2017 Kia Sportage SUV’s engine range. Some of the most likely candidates are the 1.7-liter CRDi diesel engine that develops 131 horsepower, as well as two gasoline units. These are the 1.2-liter T-GDi engine that gives 132 horsepower and 1.6-liter Gdi engine that returns 204 horsepower. Also, expect to see a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The range-topping model will be sold as the 2017 Kia Sportage Sport. It will be fitted with a long list of highly advanced features, with top-notch performance numbers as well. The engine under its hood will be the 2.0-liter T-Gdi that churns out 245 horsepower.
