2017 Lexus RX 450h Extended Version
While the all-new 2016 RX crossover is on its way to the dealerships, recently taken spy shots reveal that Lexus is currently working on a long-wheelbase version that is due to arrive at a later date. In other words, the 2017 Lexus RX 450h will introduce the third row of seats for the first time ever. This luxury crossover has been the brand’s best-selling model for years and the three-row version has been anticipated for a while. Moreover, the extended RX was first previewed back in 2003 as the HPX concept. Anyway, Lexus has finally decided to offer a more capacious cabin in order to satisfy huge demand for it. So, expect the RX 450h and its non-hybrid sibling, the RX 350, to arrive thoroughly redesigned both outside and inside, offering an extended-wheelbase variant for the 2017 model year.
2017 Lexus RX 450h Redesign
When it comes to the exterior design, the fourth-generation RX features substantial changes compared to the previous model. Of course, the most striking styling cue comes with the giant „spindle grille“ that brings the new RX closer to the brand’s latest design philosophy. Expect also to see the new model with a floating roof thanks to the blacked-out C pillars. What makes the difference in comparison to the previous generation is a more angular look. Inside, the 2017 Lexus RX 450h offers a more evolutionary transformation. The new model provides more legroom thanks to the 1.9-inch longer wheelbase. Also, some of the newly installed features include heated rear seats, new 11.6-inch monitors mounted on the front headrests as well as a 60/40-split power folding second row.
2017 Lexus RX 450h Engine Specifications
The 2017 Lexus RX 450h will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 paired with an electric motor with a combined output of around 300 horsepower. This power is transmitted to the front wheels through an updated eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Atkinson-cycle conventional V6 engine is actually based on the enhanced 3.5-liter V6 found in the RX 350. An all-wheel drive model is also expected to go on sale but at a somewhat later date. Unfortunately, the fuel economy figures are yet to be released.
2017 Lexus RX 450h Release Date
As mentioned above, the redesigned 2016 Lexus RX is due to hit the showrooms this fall. As for the 2017 Lexus RX 450h, it is expected to go on sale in mid-2016.
