2017 Mini Countryman Release Date
Mini is currently developing the next-generation Countryman as part of the company’s plan to launch five all-new models in the next few years. Thanks to some spy shots of a test mule caught in Germany, we now know that the 2017 Mini Countryman will be larger and more akin to a proper crossover SUV. The 2017 Mini Countryman is most likely to make its debut in late 2016, with sales starting sometime in early 2017.
2017 Mini Countryman Design
Compared to the outgoing version, the new-generation Countryman will adopt a more rugged stance and improved off-road capabilities. It’s expected to ride on the same UKL platform that already underpins the Clubman, Hardtop and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. The 2017 Mini Countryman will be half-foot longer and slightly wider than its predecessor, which means it should offer a considerably more capacious cabin and more cargo space. According to the aforementioned spy images, it seems that the upcoming model will feature a boxier design that should bring it closer to other compact SUVs in the segment.
2017 Mini Countryman Drivetrain
We expect the entry-level Cooper Countryman to be offered with front-wheel drive, while the all-wheel drive system found in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer should be offered as optional. As for the engine department, the base 2017 Mini Countryman will be motivated by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit. The more powerful Cooper S and John Cooper Works models will adopt 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines expected to churn out at least 228 horsepower. All of the engines will come turbocharged, while the available transmissions should include standard six-speed manual and optional six-speed automatic gearboxes.
2017 Mini Countryman Safety Features
The 2017 Mini Countryman will be offered with several new safety features. Expect to see pedestrian and collision warning systems, park assist and a head-up display. There will even be a speed limit information system. Needless to say, the brand new Countryman is due to adopt the latest technology found in some of the brand’s new models.
