2017 Mitsubishi Montero North American Release
According to unnamed sources in Mitsubishi, the Japanese automaker is due to revive the Montero SUV on the North American market. Although the official announcements are still to come, it is widely believed that a modernized version of the famous Montero might arrive for the 2017 model year. The once-renowned model disappeared from the US market almost a decade ago and Mitsubishi’s sales plummeted shortly after. It now seems that the 2017 Mitsubishi Montero is set to restore the brand’s popularity on the North American continent. Depending on the market, this long-lived SUV has been known as the Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi Shogun, Colt Shogun and Dodge Raider.
2017 Mitsubishi Montero Next Generation
An all-new version of the Montero will be based on the GC-PHEV Concept that was first revealed at the 2014 Tokyo International Motor Show. The 2017 Mitsubishi Montero is expected to introduce a plug-in hybrid model for the first time. However, we’re still in the dark when it comes to the details on its gas-electric system. As for the GC-PHEV model, it came with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 combined with an electric motor. The system’s combined output is estimated at 330 horsepower, while its power is transmitted to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Rumor has it, though, that the production-ready Montero might get a four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. It will also come with a lithium-ion battery fitted underneath the boot floor, so the cargo capacity is not supposed to be compromised. At lower speeds, the new-generation Montero will use electric power solely, while it is expected to use its batteries even for low-speed off-roading. Besides the hybrid drivetrain, the 2017 Mitsubishi Montero will be offered with a choice of gasoline and diesel units under its hood.
Sadly, we’re still awaiting more substantial information on the fifth-generation Montero and its US revival. The company sources have recently hinted at a possibility that the 2017 Mitsubishi Montero’s destiny is likely to be revealed at the upcoming 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show. Needless to say, Mitsubishi fans will be eagerly anticipating this event in order to find out more about this capable 4×4 SUV.
