2017 Toyota Prado Redesign

Currently in its fourth iteration, the Toyota Prado has been around since 2009. The model received a minor facelift for the 2013 model year, while a completely redesigned Prado is expected to arrive for the 2017 MY. That said, the 2017 Toyota Prado is due to mark the fifth generation of this long-lived model. As far as the Toyota’s SUV range is concerned, the Prado belongs to the mid-size SUV category. During its long history and four generations, it has been offered in numerous styles and versions.

2017 Toyota Prado Design and Specs

In order to keep the Prado appealing until the next-generation model arrives, the Japanese automaker launched the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Altitude model. This special edition of the famous Toyota Prado was first revealed back in 2012. Due to the model’s huge popularity, the company decided to offer its new iteration for the 2015 model year. Rumor has it that the latest Prado Altitude might serve as a blueprint for the brand new 2017 Toyota Prado SUV.

The 2015 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Altitude actually combines the characteristics of the premium VX version and the luxury Prado Kakadu model. This special edition model offers a number of distinguishing features, such as the absence of the spare wheel at the back. Unlike the standard model, the Altitude variant’s spare wheel is fitted on the place of the second fuel tank. While such a solution might come handy in urban driving conditions, it also reduces the fuel tank capacity to only 87 liters.

2017 Toyota Prado redesign

Although the 2017 Toyota Prado is very likely to borrow some of its styling cues from the Altitude model, we don’t expect it to come with  a reduced fuel range. One of the elements most likely to be taken from the Prado Altitude is its engine. It is a 3.0-liter turbo diesel unit coupled with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

The new Toyota Prado 2017 might mimic the Altitude model when it comes to its list of standard equipment as well. We expect to see its Eclipse Black exterior color as well as the 17-inch dark-grey finished alloy wheels. Of course, the 2017 Toyota Prado will retain its luxury cabin capable of carrying up to seven passengers. Some of its high-end features include the tilt-and-slide moonroof, special leather upholstery, Blu-ray rear entertainment system, rain-sensing wipers and three-zone climate control.

2017 Toyota Prado Price

Due to a large number of substantial improvements, the new-generation model is very likely to come with a higher price. In case the 2017 Toyota Prado adopts some of the Altitude edition’s elements, expect its pricing to increase by $2,000-$5,000, compared to the current model. However, we’re still awaiting official information concerning the scope of changes expected with the all-new Prado.
