2017 Volvo XC90 Redesign and Release
The 2017 Volvo XC90 SUV made its public debut at the 2014 Paris motor show but it has only recently arrived in showrooms. However, the model has already become one of the most sought after vehicles currently on the market. The all-new XC90 is basically built from scratch, aiming to represent the Volvo’s new design philosophy.
The Swedish company is due to offer a number of thoroughly redesigned models in the near future. The first in line of these brand new vehicles is the 2017 XC90 SUV, while the rest of the Volvo’s lineup is due to follow shortly after.
2017 Volvo XC90 Design and Specs
The latest XC90 rides on a new SPA scalable platform, while it has grown bigger compared to its predecessor. It measures 194.9/84.3/69.9 inches (l/w/h), with its wheelbase reaching 117.5 inches. Thanks to significant weight reductions, the new model boasts a much improved fuel economy.
As for the exterior styling, the 2017 Volvo XC90 SUV was greatly influenced by the XC Coupe Concept. The model retained its trademark Scandinavian design but it came in a more contemporary and upscale form. It also managed to preserve its recognizable angular shape that used to set it apart from the competition.
Inside, the new cabin design reflects the new stylish sheet metal perfectly. It’s pretty obvious at first glance that Volvo paid a lot of attention to detail when designing the new interior. Apart from supple leather upholstery, the cabin is replete with aluminum and wood accents as well. Technologically, the 2017 Volvo XC90 comes as one of the most impressive vehicles in the segment. The engine range of the 2017 Volvo XC90 includes four four-cylinder units. The T5 variant is fitted with an engine that makes 254 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Next in line is the T6 model with a 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged engine producing 320 hp and 400 Nm. As for the D4 version, it delivers 225 hp and 470 Nm of torque. AWD comes standard with all of the engines.
Now, the special edition of this great SUV is offered as the 2017 Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine. This PHEV version comprises a conventional T6 engine and an electric motor that generates 80 hp(64 kW). While the gasoline 2.0-liter unit propels the front axle, the rear one is motivated by the electric motor. The system’s total output is rated at 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, with fuel economy estimated at 59 mpg combined. It emits 60 g/km of CO2 and needs 5.9 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.
2017 Volvo XC90 Price
The entry-level version of the 2017 Volvo XC90 costs around $50,000, while the range-topping XC90 T8 Twin Engine models are expected to start above $60,000.
