2017 VW Polo SUV
Volkswagen’s range will be joined by the new 2017 VW Polo SUV. The model is currently under development and the concept version is yet to be revealed. Although the concept was originally expected to make its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the automaker decided to reveal the VW T-ROC instead. This concept now serves as a preview of Volkswagen’s future SUV design philosophy. Of course, we expect to see some of its features in the upcoming Polo SUV crossover.
2017 VW Polo SUV Design
So, the 2017 VW Polo SUV will be based on the regular VW Polo model. Its SUV version doesn’t come as much of a surprise since the Polo is currently the best-selling model in VW’s range. Of course, it is expected to lend many of its features to the brand new SUV version. For instance, the two vehicles will share the same VW MQB platform that underpins the current-generation Polo. As for its design, it is expected to incorporate most of the styling cues seen on the VW T-ROC and Cross Coupe Concept model. The MQB platform allows the length of 4,180 mm, which is 100 mm shorter than the VW Tiguan SUV. The exterior styling itself will mark a turning point when it comes to VW’s design philosophy. The 2017 VW Polo SUV is expected to appear as a dynamic and attractive off-roader with its protruding wheel arches and other striking features. However, the new crossover will be made mostly for urban buyers.
The upcoming small SUV is expected to prove itself as a highly profitable model. Moreover, the very fact that VW intends to sell it on the US market, tells how high the company’s expectations are when it comes to this new project. On the other hand, the German automaker won’t have an easy task trying to design a vehicle equally appealing on both sides of the Atlantic ocean.
The Engine Options
We expect to see a broad engine lineup available under its hood, having in mind the fact that the model will be sold globally. VW will certainly need to offer a wide variety of engine options in order to fulfill the customer’s expectations on various markets. Much of the company’s effort will be focused on the fuel efficiency. It is speculated that the base VW Polo SUV is supposed to be powered by 1.0-liter and 2.0-liter TDI and TSI engines. These units should generate between 90 hp and 185 hp, while being paired with manual or automatic transmissions. Also, there will be a 7-speed transmission with double-clutch offered as an option. The range-topping model will come as the 2017 VW Polo R SUV. It is expected to adopt the engine that powers the VW Golf GTI model. It is a four-cylinder 2.2-liter unit that gives 220 hp. The R model will come with front-wheel drive as standard, while all-wheel drive should come optional.
2017 VW Polo SUV Price
Some of the greatest rivals to the new VW SUV will be the Nissan Juke, MINI Countryman and Opel Mokka. The 2017 VW Polo SUV will certainly be one of the most competitive models, at least when it comes to quality and performance. The official pricing strategy is yet to be revealed. Rumor has it that the upcoming Polo SUV should start around €20,000 in Europe. Unfortunately, its price on the US and other world markets is still unknown.
