2017 VW Tiguan Release Date
The 2017 VW Tiguan is scheduled to make its European debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. So, the second generation of the Tiguan crossover is expected to hit the dealerships as early as 2016. It is interesting to note that the German automaker has invested a substantial amount of money in the production facility in Pueblo, Mexico. This plant is set to produce the 2017 VW Tiguan with 5+2 seating layout. The model will be available in the US as well as some other non-European markets. As for the standard five-seater 2017 VW Tiguan, it will continue to be sold in its familiar configuration.
Apart from the new-generation Tiguan SUV, the VW family is awaiting several other newcomers. The new models have already been officially announced, although they made their debuts only as concept versions thus far. The first one to expect is the production-ready version of the 2017 VW CrossBlue full-size crossover SUV. The next in line should be the mid-size SUV VW CrossCoupe GTE. According to some reports, the VW T-Rock crossover might also enter production due to a very positive response of the public.
2017 VW Tiguan – Design and Changes
As for the seven-seater Tiguan, it’s not very likely to compete in the three-row, full-size SUV segment on the US market. This variant comes only slightly larger than the standard model, while the two additional seats are able to carry only smaller children. The larger version is expected to enter production in the second half of 2016, with sales likely to start in early 2017. VW plans to churn out 500 units a day.
So, the American (5+2) version of the 2017 VW Tiguan will be 4,7 m long, which is 30 cm longer than the standard model. Naturally, its wheelbase and cargo space will grow as well, with cargo capacity reaching 500 liters. It’s also interesting that the German company plans to offer both left-hand and right-hand versions of the upcoming Tiguan. This is a clear evidence of the company’s plans to offer the new model worldwide.
At the same time, the European version of the 2017 VW Tiguan SUV will carry over unchanged when it comes to dimensions and configuration. The model will retain its familiar five-seat layout. However, expect to see a number of exterior styling changes. The redesigned model will borrow most of the styling cues seen on the concept version. The 2017 VW Tiguan will feature a perfect balance of sleek design and functionality. Anyway, it won’t come as a much of a surprise to all those familiar with the qualities of a VW vehicle.
2017 VW Tiguan – Specs
We’re still waiting for detailed specifications when it comes to the US 5+2 version of the new Tiguan. The European 2017 VW Tiguan, however, will be offered with several gasoline and diesel powerplants. There will be a four-cylinder 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, while the new-generation diesel units will come with outputs ranging from 110 to 184 horsepower. The units will be coupled with six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission, while the models will come with VW 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Although the engines provide decent performance and efficiency, American buyers are not very likely to find them appealing. In that sense, the 2017 VW Tiguan 5+2 is anticipated to offer a completely different engine range.
