2018 Audi Q3 New Generation
The new generation of the Audi Q3 SUV has been speculated about for a while, even though the current model has undergone a facelift recently. So, the redesigned model is expected to arrive as the 2018 Audi Q3 with a large number of significant improvements. The Q3 has been the smallest Audi’s SUV so far but that’s about to change as soon as the 2016 Audi Q1 makes its debut. One of the reasons that led the German automaker to base the 2018 Audi Q3 on a new platform is the need to make a clear distinction between these two crossovers.
2018 Audi Q3 Changes
The recent facelift brought minor cosmetic updates concentrated mostly on the Q3’s front end. As for the aforementioned new generation, it is anticipated to bring a thoroughly redesigned model. The 2018 Audi Q3 will be underpinned by a new modified MQB platform, which should result in larger dimensions of the upcoming model. There will be some substantial changes when it comes to exterior styling but we still don’t have most of the details. We expect more specific information to surface in the near future until the next-generation Q3 SUV arrives.
As for the new engine department, the 2018 model will come with some interesting innovations. Rumor has it that the new range will be significantly expanded. According to some reports, the 2018 Q3 will borrow some of its powerplants from the VW Tiguan SUV. When it comes to power output, it is expected to range between unimpressive 100 hp and outstanding 400 hp. Of course, the more powerful units will find their place in the 2018 Audi RS Q3 and 2018 Audi RS Q3 TDI models. The new RS Q3 will be powered by an engine that churns out more than 400 hp, while the RS diesel version should provide 275 hp. For all those who opt for mighty yet economical vehicles, there will be the 2018 Audi Q3 Ultra model. It will be powered by a three-cylinder 1.0-liter gasoline engine that makes 110 hp.
2016 Audi Q3 US Specs
The current Audi Q3 hit the US dealerships in the spring of 2015, while the same model has been available in Europe since 2011. The latest Q3’s facelift was revealed at the 2015 NAIAS in Detroit. The 2016 Audi Q3 USA boasts a modern front grille, a more muscular stance adorned with several chrome accents. As for the rear end, it came with revised tail lights with integrated dynamic turn signals.
The cabin features a sophisticated design with plenty of technological amenities. Thanks to the high seating position, the outward visibility of the Q3 is excellent. One of the rare downsides when it comes to interior is the lack of room for the rear passengers. On the other hand, being a compact crossover, the Q3 wasn’t designed to haul large families in the first place. The dashboard comes with its traditional layout, while the central display features some new controls.
The 2016 Audi Q3 is offered on the North American market with only one powerplant option. Many have deemed it unfair since the buyers in Europe are able to choose from a large number of engines. At the time being, the US buyers will have to settle for a four-cylinder 2.0-liter TFSI turbocharged engine. This unit makes 220 horsepower, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Buyers on both sides of the Atlantic ocean will have the current Q3 as one of the best options in this segment, at least until the 2018 Audi Q3 arrives. It is widely believed that the next-generation Audi Q3 will be available in the US shortly after its premiere.
