2018 Lamborghini Urus Launch Time
Although the Urus SUV was previously anticipated to arrive as a 2017 model, Lamborghini has only recently announced that their first SUV is due to make its debut for the 2018 model year. Not only will the 2018 Lamborghini Urus be the brand’s first SUV ever, it will also be the first model to adopt a hybrid drivetrain.
Urus SUV Design
Namely, the 2018 Lamborghini Urus will be based on the concept first previewed at the Beijing Motor Show in 2012. Despite the lack of official information on the upcoming model’s exterior design, it is widely believed that Lamborghini’s first SUV will borrow much of its styling cues from the Urus concept. That includes its aggressive front end reminiscent of the one seen on the Aventador as well as the steeply raked roofline. It is also expected to ride on VW Group’s MLB platform that underpins the new Audi Q7 and upcoming Bentley Bentayga.
Details concerning the engine powering the new Urus SUV are very scarce at the moment. As for the Urus concept, it came with a naturally aspirated V10 unit under its hood. However, official sources hint at a possibility that the 2018 Lamborghini Urus could adopt the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 used by the Audi RS6 and Bentley Continental GT. Rumor has it that this engine might be cranking out more than 600 horsepower. As mentioned, the gas-electric model using the V8 engine is expected to go on sale in 2018. It remains to be seen whether there’s any truth to these speculations but we can say for sure that the Urus is going to be one of the most powerful vehicles in the segment.
2018 Lamborghini Urus Production
The 2018 Lamborghini Urus will be produced at the Sant’Agata Bolognese facility. According to the company, around 3,000 units will be built each year. This superb model is expected to take on the Bentley Bentayga which is currently the fastest SUV in the world. In any case, it would be very interesting to see whether the Urus will manage to surpass the Bentayga’s top speed of 187 mph.
