2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS Redesign
The current Mercedes-Benz GL SUV is due to be replaced by 2018. The much-anticipated third generation of this model will be sold as the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS. Codenamed the X167, the model will undergo a thorough redesign during the next couple of years. Despite the large number of substantial changes, the 2018 GLS will retain its seven-seat three-row configuration.
2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS Changes
The redesigned 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV will be a larger model with a longer wheelbase compared to its predecessor. Some sources suggest that its wheelbase might be extended to over three meters. This change will definitely result in a more spacious and comfortable cabin, as well as a larger cargo space.
Of course, the most noticeable changes will come with the new sheet metal. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS will feature a whole new front fascia, including a new grille and reshaped headlights. It will come with redesigned bumpers and new 23-inch wheels. Also, the interior will receive a large number of sleek materials and advanced systems.
Prior to the launch of the third generation, the company plans to give the 2016 GLS model a facelift. In addition to that, the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach GLS is scheduled to go on sale. This luxury SUV will be replete with all sorts of equipment, as you might expect. Needless to say, its outstanding level of quality will make it one of the most prestigious models in the segment.
2018 Mercedes GLS Specs
Mechanically, the third-generation GLS will be powered by the same range as the current model. However, the engines will be enhanced in order to produce more horsepower. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS is expected to provide significantly improved performance figures compared to its predecessor. Instead of the current 432 horsepower, the V8 will generate 462 hp. As for the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS AMG version, it will be powered by a 5.5-liter bi-turbo engine that churns out outstanding 585 horsepower. These engines are expected to be joined by a Plug-in hybrid unit as well. Unfortunately, we’re still in the dark when it comes to details on this gas-electric system.
In a nutshell, the upcoming model will come as a largely improved vehicle thanks to its new exterior design, larger dimensions and enhanced engine range. What is more, the new model will be lighter than its predecessor even though it will grow in size. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS’s improved aerodynamics will affect its fuel economy in a positive way.
