2018 Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV

After much deliberation, Rolls Royce has finally confirmed the first SUV model to enter production. According to the company CEO, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the all-new SUV should arrive as the 2018 Rolls-Royce Cullinan. This move didn’t come as much of a surprise, especially in the wake of Bentley’s decision to premiere the Benayga SUV at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Due to the increasing popularity of the SUV segment, most of the automakers have recently been investing large sums into expanding their SUV ranges. Even the high-end SUV market is expected to grow at an impressive rate in the course of the next few years. Among the luxury brands that have announced new crossover models are some of the most famous names such as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Maserati and Lamborghini. Of course, we expect these automakers to deliver the most advanced and luxurious SUV models that this segment has ever seen.

2018 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Design and Specs

The high-end SUV will be based on the same aluminum platform that already underpins the new BMW X7 SUV. The 2018 Rolls-Royce Cullinan is expected to share many of its components with the X7. As far as the dimensions are concerned, the new model is expected to be similar to the Rolls-Royce Phantom with its 5.5 meters in length. Torsten Müller-Ötvös has also stated that the Cullinan will differ from a conventional off-road vehicle in most respects. However, it should still provide excellent off-road capabilities combined with a luxurious interior space and outstanding comfort.

Some sources suggest that the 2018 Rolls-Royce Cullinan will borrow its powertrain from the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Namely, it uses a 6.75-liter V12 unit that delivers plenty of horsepower and excellent performance figures.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Price

As for the pricing policy, the new model will be priced according to its name. Namely, the „Cullinan“ is named after the largest and most valuable diamond in the world. It is expected to start at €350,000, which is considerably higher than the Bentley Bentayga’s starting price of €220,000. According to the company, the 2018 Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be produced in no more than 2,000 units a year. The model will be aimed primarily at the US and Middle Eastern markets.
