Alfa Romeo SUV 2016 Release Date
The Alfa Romeo SUV 2016, codenamed ’Project 949’, is currently being developed. According to some sources, this new model could possibly be named Alfa Romeo Giulietta Cross. The Italian automaker has already presented its 4c model, while the much-awaited Giulia made its debut in June 2015. The Alfa Romeo SUV 2016 MY is likely to be revealed in early 2016.
The aforementioned models are part of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group’s plan to launch eight new Alfa Romeo models within next few years. All of the models are scheduled to arrive by 2018 as part of the company’s strategy to boost sales and reach up to 400,000 units per year. It is estimated that the US and Chinese markets could absorb the bulk of the Alfa Romeo production.
Alfa Romeo SUV 2016 Specs
The Alfa Romeo SUV 2016 will be produced at the Cassino facility in Italy. When it comes to dimensions, the new SUV is comparable to the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 models, its two most likely competitors. The upcoming Alfa Romeo’s SUV will be based on the Giorgio platform with rear-wheel drive, developed by Maserati. However, the automaker has announced an all-wheel drive version as well. Its strong points, according to the company’s officials, include „advanced and innovative engine lineup, impressive power-to-weight ratio and distinctive Italian design”. The Alfa Romeo SUV is expected to become the best vehicle with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive produced in Italy.
There has been much speculation about the choice of powerplants for this SUV. Rumor has it that it should receive a new V6 diesel engine. However, some sources suggest that the Alfa’s new SUV will be equipped with engines developed by Ferrari. The lineup itself is supposed to comprise several fresh four-cylinder and V6 engines, both diesel- and gasoline-powered. The range-topping diesel version is expected to churn out 350 hp, while the most powerful gasoline engine should produce impressive 500 hp.
Alfa Romeo SUV 4×4
Besides the announced Giulietta Cross SUV, Alfa Romeo is preparing to launch another crossover SUV. It is supposed to make its debut sometime later to slot right above the smaller 2016 Alfa Romeo SUV. The bigger SUV will also come with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions.
